The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is sometimes mistakenly seen only as a student ID used for access to schools, libraries, or cafeterias. However, the ISIC card can also be used outside the school environment to claim student discounts or benefits. Among the most significant benefits where the ISIC card can be used are discounts on transport.
That’s why GTS ALIVE, as the licensing authority for issuing ISIC and ITIC cards in the Czech Republic, considers public transport a key segment. For this reason, a special website dedicated to public transport – Studentskejizdne.cz – was created. There, ISIC cardholders can find information about how to use their ISIC, available discounts, and updates in transportation.
Where can I use an ISIC in transportation?
The ISIC card is accepted in most public transportation systems (MHD) in the Czech Republic as a substitute for paper confirmation when purchasing discounted fares. Students no longer need to carry paper certificates — simply showing their ISIC card is enough to prove their student status. In addition to student tariffs and pupil fares, the ISIC card can also be used on over 300 bus and train lines across the Czech Republic, where special ISIC discounts apply. Unlike standard school discounts, these ISIC discounts are valid year-round — including weekends. Beyond domestic travel, the ISIC discount can also be used for international travel. With ISIC, students can travel to over 200 European cities.
Transport discounts with ISIC even during holidays
In addition, several transport-related promotions take place throughout the year, such as the Summer Ticket from Czech Railways or the Canoe Bus. In summer, RegioJet offered an exclusive discount of up to 20% for ISIC cardholders. A new feature this year was also the rental of bicycles from rental stations operated by Czech Railways at selected train stations. Thanks to the ISIC card, holders could save as much as those with so-called In Cards. In September, Czech Railways also prepared a promotion offering ISIC cardholders a 100 CZK discount on the In Card. Or the 1+1 offer from Eurolines, where students could use the ticket for a trip to Christmas markets, Valentine’s Day, or spring break.
With the ISIC card, you can get transport discounts even abroad.
The ISIC card offers a wide range of possibilities in transportation. It’s a card that gives its holder the opportunity to save money while traveling. The advantage is that ISIC discounts can be applied not only in domestic transport, but also abroad.
