In the online world, there’s often a lot of buzz surrounding it… Let’s find out which pieces of information about the digital ISIC in the Alive App are true and which are just myths rooted in concerns. We’ll now explain the 5 most common ones so you don’t drown in misinformation, but instead glide through with confidence—like Aquaman.
The 5 biggest myths about digital ISIC
You need Wi‑Fi or mobile data to display ISIC in the app.
Don’t worry — ISIC and other products (such as insurance) work even offline. They are stored in your phone’s cache for up to 120 days. This means you can display your card even when your phone isn’t connected to the internet.
Digital ISIC cannot be used for transportation
No worries, you can easily use the digital ISIC on trains, buses, or public transport. Sometimes there's electronic verification, but often the card is just visually checked—just like it was with the plastic version.
Alive App does not work abroad
The digital ID is recognized in all countries where ISIC is issued (currently almost 100). All discounts from the discount database should therefore be available to you without issue. If that’s not the case, it’s an error and you should contact us or the local ISIC issuer so the situation can be resolved.
Your personal data is at risk
Your privacy is our priority. When verifying your card, we don’t share your personal data — partners and institutions only receive a simple confirmation of whether you are eligible for the discount or not, without any sensitive details. All data used during verification is encrypted. We don’t process your information on a personal level — for example, we do not track your location. Benefit partners only receive aggregated data about how often their discounts are used, not who uses them.
You don’t have to use the app to get an ISIC. You can still use the traditional plastic card instead.
We created the Alive App to meet the wishes of the vast majority of students for a convenient and modern way to prove student status and access benefits.
But if you prefer a plastic card, that option is available too! Most schools continue to issue plastic ISIC cards alongside the digital version (for example, due to school chip access systems). After the expiration date printed on your plastic card, you can have it renewed at selected universities by purchasing a validity extension and either receiving a new revalidation sticker or — if your university no longer uses stickers — getting a new card issued for a fee. However, be sure to check the specific conditions directly at your school, as each school sets its own rules for issuing cards.
If you ordered a one-time ISIC directly from us at www.isic.cz, you can order a plastic card anytime later as an add-on.
